Purpose and Aims of the RISE Reception Network

The RISE Reception Network brings together Reception practitioners to collaborate, share best practice and strengthen outcomes for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The network provides a professional space where practitioners can learn from one another, reflect on their practice and keep up to date with current educational research, guidance and developments.

The purpose of the network is to support high-quality teaching and learning across Reception classes by fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Through regular meetings, professional discussions and shared resources, members are encouraged to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in delivering an engaging and effective Reception curriculum.

Our Aims

To create a supportive professional community for Reception practitioners.

To share effective strategies, ideas and resources that enhance children's learning and development.

To promote consistency and excellence in Early Years practice across settings.

To develop practitioners' understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, current research and national priorities.

To provide opportunities for professional development, reflection and peer support.

To strengthen provision for communication and language, early literacy, mathematics, personal development and school readiness.

To celebrate successes and address challenges collaboratively.

To ensure all children have access to high-quality learning experiences that enable them to thrive and reach their full potential.

The RISE Reception Network is committed to empowering practitioners through collaboration, professional dialogue and shared expertise, ultimately improving outcomes for children and supporting their journey as confident, capable and enthusiastic learners.

At Harris Primary Academy Mayflower, a vibrant five-form entry school in Thurrock, Essex, our Reception provision is built upon a carefully sequenced, skills-based curriculum that reflects the unique needs, interests and experiences of our children.

Communication and language are at the heart of everything we do. Through high-quality interactions, purposeful teaching and a language-rich environment, children develop the vocabulary, knowledge and confidence they need to become successful learners. Reading is a key priority within our curriculum, with carefully selected high-quality texts and a strong home reading programme nurturing a lifelong love of books and supporting children to become enthusiastic, capable readers.

Outdoor learning is a particular strength of our provision. Our well-planned outdoor environment encourages children to solve problems, collaborate with others, build resilience and develop their physical skills, while extending and enriching learning across all areas of the curriculum.

We are committed to ensuring that every child feels seen, valued and included. Strong partnerships with families, alongside a celebration of diversity, help us create a welcoming and inclusive community where children can thrive. Through high-quality texts, community events and the celebration of national days and religious festivals, children are encouraged to explore their own identities while developing an appreciation and understanding of the experiences, cultures and traditions of others.

By working closely with families, we create meaningful opportunities for children to share, celebrate and learn from a rich variety of backgrounds and experiences. Together, we foster confident, curious and compassionate learners who are well prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
